So how many of you are joining in on the PRIDE celebrations this month?
With so many rainbow coloured events and activities across the world, how many of us actually know fully why we are celebrating this?
June celebrates the history of Pride in a tribute to the Stonewall Riots in Manhattan in 1969.
Throughout the month of June, we celebrate the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community with colourful rainbow flags and outfits, covering ourselves in glitter and join in on the festivals, parades and concerts across the world.

On June 28th 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn which was a gay club in Greenwich. This resulted in huge riots with patrons, residents of the local areas and staff from the Inn all involved.
One of the leaders of the riot Marsha P. Johnson who was a black, bisexual, trans woman, lead the riot of nearly a week with protests. The movement fought for there to be establishments where LGBT+ people could go without risk of being arrested and safely be open about their sexuality.
TheRainbowFlag
The iconic rainbow flag was designed by Gilbert Baker who was asked by his friend and gay politician Harvey Milk to create and all-encompassing symbol of the movement to take to the San Francisco Pride March in 1978.
PRIDEDay
The official Pride Day is June 28th but celebration generally go on throughout the whole month. Pride Day itself marks the day in history when the first Pride March was held in New York in 1970.
The activities attract millions of participants across the globe. There are memorials for those who lost their lives to hate crimes and HIV/AIDS. It is seen as a commemorative time to spread awareness of the impact that the LGBT+ community have had on history across the world.
